Assuming that the fabric itself isn’t a programmable display, I’m imagining a sort of mall kiosk, kind of like those Japanese photo booths.
You’d buy a shirt made of a thermally reactive fabric, put it on, and then select your image. Then you’d enter the booth, it’d 3d map your torso, adjust the image appropriately, and then laser print the shirt.
I remember Adam Warren did a comic where people in the future had shirts that would play anime.
It might have been his Teen titans Elseworld, but I’m not totally sure.

if i were an employee at such a kiosk, i’d offer “personally hand-painted” versions as a special option for “select clientele” 😉
