Hearing the captain tell the cabin crew to “sit down and strap in” because of turbulence kinda takes the joy out of flying…
i think our altitude changed 20 feet in 1.5 seconds, only to go right back again 2 seconds later. fortunately, i hadn’t eaten in like 3 hours.
I’m reminded of an old saying:
“Flying is the second greatest joy known to man. Landing is the first.”
Flying is not a joy. It should be, but instead the modern era has made it incredibly taxing and wretched.
This was typically bandied about by pilots, who often have a slightly different perspective on the whole thing.

Sometimes I find the rocking of the plane to be a little soothing.
